Manchester food photography
In preparation for Uber launching their UberEats service we were tasked with carrying out some Manchester food photography in local restaurants and outlets. The images were all shot to a brief so that they can match the other photos on the app as best as possible. This included specifications like shooting a ‘hero’ image from above a selection of the dishes, to providing them in a variety of sizes and resolutions. There was a key focus in the project to utilise what the location provided, including crockery, surfaces and backgrounds. This meant that each set of images naturally became unique to the cafe, restaurant or dessert shop that they were photographed in.
Professional photography equipment
The equipment we used for this project varied per location but included 2x Canon 5D Mark III camera bodies, Canon 24-70 f2.8 Mark II, Canon 70-200 f2.8 Mark II lenses, 2x Canon 600EX-RT flashes, Yongnuo Flash Transceivers, a flash umbrella softbox, a Lastolite reflector, a Manfrotto tripod and some light stands. Different kit was used in a variety of different ways depending on the location and light available at the time of the shoot.
Creating a theme
The project involved shooting at a real variety of food retailers, including takeaways, fast food diners along with larger restaurants. It was great creating a theme for each outlet through the use of textures, props and light. We think we delivered some excellent results and were very happy to see UberEats use one of our images to announce their launch in Manchester!

A variety of food photography images from the project can be seen below. The image from Soup Kitchen (the header & 2nd photograph) was our personal favourite from this project!
