Cameras in hand
We were thrilled when Startupbootcamp Insurtech asked us to be their London corporate event photographer. It was our first time visiting the incredible venue of indigo at The O2, a modern, multi-functional 2,800 capacity entertainment venue located under the famous tented roof of The O2. As an event photographer we were treated to a spectacular stage production and an enormous room full of delegates. It certainly is one of the most striking venues in London to present pitches on a stage and a pleasure to visit with our cameras in hand. We arrived early to capture some of the action behind the scenes whilst the team were setting up, and presenters rehearsing their pitches. The event officially opened with a welcome speech and a live band playing covers at a really high level, a great opening in such a grand venue.
An afternoon of networking
At Demo Day, attendees are able to see each startup in the cohort in action, hear their stories, and, afterward, able to meet and speak with them directly. This presents a unique opportunity for an afternoon of learning, interaction, and networking in the Insurtech space. As part of the official media team we are of course there to capture the day as it unfolds, but it is still incredibly interesting to hear what some of the start ups have to say. It is quite inspiring hearing someone speak so passionately in a business presentation about where they have found a real opportunity through the use of technology in such a mature market.
Create interesting frames
We captured the huge multi level theatre style venue with just one photographer (but a fair amount of equipment). Most of the event was shot on two lenses. A wide angle Canon 16-35mm f2.8 lens, to capture the sheer scale of the event. And a telephoto Canon 70-200mm f2.8 lens, to get close in such a big venue and create interesting frames. The stage and wider venue shots were well lit by the in-house production team fantastically, some of the networking elements required use of a really fast Sigma 35mm ART lens and a Canon speedlight to achieve the required exposure. As with a lot of our projects our client required edited key shots for social media content and marketing material throughout the day, as it happened. We love providing this service (as standard) as we believe it helps create the most impact by getting photos out fast.
We really enjoyed being the corporate photographer for the 2017 Demo Day. You will find a small selection of images showing a little of what went on and our final creative results on this page. Please let us know what you think in the comments!
